Children on the Move
Dear Parents and teachers,
In our work with families, we are aware of the anxiety that children have about moving. They may have fears, questions and sadness, that they may or may not feel comfortable about discussing with you, or they do not know how to express these concerns.
Like adults, children have varying reactions to the stress of moving. Some withdraw. Others throw themselves into frantic activity. Some hide their feelings. Whether it is with silence or tears, children go through tough times in moving.
Because of our concern, we have put together this coloring book for you to share with your child. It can be an opportunity for you to talk about the changes that happen within a family and the reasons for them. Our children need to know that we care. Nothing helps dispel fear and sadness as much as sharing our feelings with those we love most.
It is important that they understand that their toys, clothes, furniture and the people they love, will not change but will only be put into another setting. They need to understand that you remain the same in your love.
Some family’s dynamics may be changing. There may be a new baby or a divorce to adjust to. We hope that this book will help you find opportunities to discuss these changes and what they mean in your children’s lives.
We also hope that you share our philosophy of a house. We feel that a house needs to fit its family. A house is somewhat like clothing in that it needs to be appropriate for the size, pocketbook, location, warmth and makes us feel good. A home can be as casual as an old pair of jeans or formal as a tuxedo. There is no right or wrong-it is just a matter of finding the best fit.
We sell and help decorate homes with the belief that houses are just “bricks and mortar” and it is the people who live there that really count. The house may change but the family remains the same.
